Based on my personal experiences with my 3 young kids (born 2005, 2007 and 2012), I provide tailor-made tours for families with children, designed to match your ideas and family style. The tour will be adjusted to your children's needs, and includes details of recommended indoor and outdoor playgrounds, family-friendly restaurants and cafes and cultural, sport or other activities for kids of any age.
All tours are tailor-made, so the itinerary will be created according to your preferences. Generally speaking, for first time visitors, I suggest taking 2 half-day tours to cover both parts of the historical city center, divided by the river Vltava. Each tour takes 3-4 hours.
The city of Prague will be presented to younger children through charming legends and popular Czech fairy-tale figures such as the water sprite "Vodnik", or "Krtek" the little mole, which I will point out and explain the tradition. The tour is meant to be informative and relaxing for parents, and at the same time entertaining and fun for your children.
For pre-school and young school kids, I have prepared worksheets about Prague house signs that we will search for during our tours. House signs used to characterize each house before chronological numbers were introduced in the late 18th century. We will try to guess how each sign is related to the history of the house and its inhabitants. During the tour, we will see images of the Golem depicted on streets of the former Jewish quarter, and will learn about the creation of this artificial man who was made according to a secret Kabala ritual. Of course, we will not miss the famous Astrological clock which mirrors the medieval view of the world, with a spooky skeleton figure which shakes its head and rings a bell during a short sequence every hour.
During the tours, I don't only focus on recounting Prague's charming legends, but I also put them in a historic perspective. As a result both kids and their parents are satisfied and have a chance to learn about the history of the city of Prague and it's famous sights too.
For families with kids I recommend taking a day trip from Prague to visit the historic craft center Botanicus, and an organic farm for a delicious lunch break. This 7 hour trip will give you a chance to relax after the busy city center. At the same time you'll have fun creating hand-made objects and learn about life during Medieval times.
